About
Me
Lorenzo Albala, MD completed emergency medicine training at Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency and Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. His residency training at an urban academic medical center was paired with a strong interest for practice in remote and coastal communities. During fellowship, he developed and delivered a point-of-care ultrasound training program in Samoa, and secured grant funding for their emergency department. He also spent time in rural Alaska, serving an Inuit population in a community only accessible by plane.
Lorenzo’s passion for global health and rural and remote emergency medicine work refined his skills as an efficient physician in resource-constrained settings. As an emergency doctor with austere medicine training, he champions evidence-based care for emergencies in or out of the hospital.
Lorenzo grew up on a farm in Piemonte, Italy. His origins spurred a lifelong passion for the outdoors. From treating athletes during ultramarathon events to running educational scenarios for medical students on a NOLS trip, he is happiest when his passions combine.
Dr. Albala’s journey from competitive rowing to mountain biking and surfing, combined with world-class medical training and a passion for improving medical care in remote and rural coastal communities, has shaped his career – and brought him here.
