What will I learn from this course?
Whether you are traveling in avalanche territory, ice climbing a new route, or going for a hike in chilly weather, you can run into a situation where you, a companion, or even a stranger you encounter needs help out of a difficult situation. The goal of this course is to provide an overview of cold weather activity planning and preparation from the lens of a wilderness emergency medical provider, with an emphasis on the identification and field management of cold-related illnesses.
If you spend time outdoors, it is important to learn concepts of wilderness medicine and practice wilderness first aid. The four Ps of P4A establish a framework to help mitigate risk, manage problems, and democratize education with skills that can help anyone.
This course combines cognitive efficiency strategies with the skills and knowledge of emergency medicine and wilderness medicine providers in a condensed and easy-to-understand format, so that you can easily remember and carry that preparedness with you on your next adventure.
